Monty Lopez was born in Mexico City on October 11, 1963. His father, Monty Lopez Sr., was a professional boxer who fought in the welterweight and middleweight divisions. His mother, Maria, was a homemaker. Monty has two brothers, Armando and Antonio, and two sisters, Carmen and Claudia.

Lopez began boxing at the age of eight, and by the age of fourteen, he was the Mexican national champion in his weight class. He turned professional at the age of sixteen, and won his first nineteen fights.

Lopez’s professional career was cut short by a car accident in which he suffered a broken neck. He was only twenty-one years old at the time.

Despite his short career, Lopez is considered one of the greatest Mexican boxers of all time. He was a world-class fighter who fought some of the biggest names in the sport, including Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, and Thomas Hearns.

Lopez’s accomplishments in the ring are even more impressive considering the fact that he was always fighting at a disadvantage. He was a natural welterweight, but often had to fight as a middleweight because there were not many opponents in his weight class.

Monty Lopez passed away on January 22, 2017, at the age of 53. He will be remembered as one of the greatest Mexican boxers of all time.
